About Mike Newlon
I am author Mike Newlon.
I live in Virginia Beach with my wife and son. My wife is a fantastic woman from the heart of China. A woman I hope to never be without.
I have a technology background and was born and raised a Gen-X.
I've had a heart for writing since I was a young boy. In 2014, I took Creative Writing classes and began the journey. With a snail's pace beginning, followed by years of doubt and no words, I finally picked up again and wrote several unpublished stories before finally producing Delusional.
I knew from the start that I wanted to self-publish. Despite the daunting marketing task, this publishing style fits my developer and entrepreneurial spirit.
I love thrillers, and I do love fantasy. I never envisioned myself as a "horror" writer, but I guess that is how they've classified Delusional. I know my voice and storytelling are unique, and I expect that distinctive voice to receive backlash in today's novels, but I don't care.
My characters will go where they go and do what they do, but my writing style aligns with my nature.
Love them or hate them, my published works will continue to flow from the wellspring of my imagination and not someone else's.
Sincerely,
Mike
My Storytelling Style
My writing style is to create constant suspense, write in a concise, accessible language, and provide ample white space as I focus on short chapters.
It doesn’t matter if I am in First or Third Person Limited view, I try to dive into the psychological state of my characters. This, I believe is why I’ve labeled myself as a Psychological Thriller writer.
Whether I am in First or Third Person Limited view doesn't matter. I dive into the psychological state of my characters. This is why I've labeled myself a Psychological Thriller writer.
I often get bored with novels, so I write how I like to read. Sometimes, I may miss the mark, but I learn and grow with each story told.
